James Ingram


James Ingram, Trainer at ACHIEVE Centre for Leadership & Workplace Performance

James has extensive experience training people to handle situations of conflict and escalated emotion. He has a degree in Sociology and has worked for over a decade of in the fieldmental health and addictions, specifically working in a variety of shelters, as well as addiction rehabilitation and treatment facilities for youth. In his various roles, he has been instrumental in developing and implementing policies for managing conflict. James believes some of the most critical skills anyone can develop are listening skills. In addition to training with ACHIEVE, he also teaches at the college level. As a facilitator, James provides high level training for groups that is both engaging and well organized.

We all encounter people we find difficult, and typically conversations with them leave us feeling stressed and frustrated. This workshop explores what is happening in those exchanges and demonstrates how people can adapt their strategies to bring about more productive conversations with those they find difficult. Individual approaches for dealing with difficult people will be discussed, with an emphasis on understanding and adapting one’s approach to create different results.

For those who work in an environment where there is potential for violence, it is important to develop the skills needed to defuse dangerous situations. This workshop is designed to teach people to de-escalate potentially violent situations through assertiveness and interpersonal communication. The training will explore how anger and violence interplay, including opportunities for self-assessment of personal communication styles.

Registration Information

Register early! Seating is limited.

Children and unregistered guests are not permitted in the meeting rooms.

The early registration rate is available for those participants who submit both their registration form and payment 3 weeks before the workshop.

Participants will receive a spiral bound training manual and a certificate of completion.

Workshop Schedule

The workshops start at 9:00 a.m. and conclude around 4:00 p.m. Please arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. on the first day to check in and receive a training manual. Regular breaks are scheduled throughout the day. Participants are on their own for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m., unless otherwise stated above. Our half-day workshops start at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m.

Cancellation Policy

Registrations cancelled seven or more days prior to the workshop are refundable, minus a $50.00 administrative fee. Alternatively, you may receive a credit to attend a future training. Cancellations less than seven days prior to the workshop are non-refundable. If at any time you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another individual at no extra cost. In this case, please notify ACHIEVE of the name and email address of the alternate person who will be attending.

We reserve the right to cancel workshops due to unforeseen circumstances or under-enrolment. Liability is limited to a refund of workshop fees only. Please make travel and accommodation arrangements with this in mind.

Group Registration Instructions

To register a group for a workshop, register for selected workshop, then once in shopping cart, add quantity of participants and provide names of all participants.
